Walking the Walk Riding the Ride

Brenda Takes on Ruta del Jefe

As part of my professional development I’ve been wanting to get more experience with off-road riding. While I have experience commuting and bike touring, off-road gear, trails and techniques are a new area for me!

I’m looking forward to the possibility of expanding my cycling knowledge and experience by embarking on this journey with Ruta del Jefe, a ride through the Sonoran Desert (I’m still on the waitlist!). Off-road cycling is something I’ve been interested in for a long time but haven’t taken steps to experience until now.

I am also excited to raise money for organizations that are actively fighting for basic human rights and environmental conservation in the Sky Islands region of the Sonoran Desert, the US/Mexico borderlands in Southern Arizona, and one of the most biodiverse places in the world.

Please consider donating to this fundraiser. Any amount contributed is greatly appreciated in helping me reach my fundraising goal.

Acknowledging Victims of Traffic Violence

An unidentified cyclist in Lancaster was killed in a hit-and-run on Saturday, February 5 while riding on Avenue H, east of Division Street around 9pm. Driver remains unknown though there are details of the vehicle here.

A cyclist was struck and killed the evening of February 7 by an Azusa Police Department officer on a motorcycle. CHP is investigating the crash that took place on the border of Covina and the unincorporated Charter Oak area. Full story available here.

This is a space for Angelenos to remember and honor those who have passed while riding in LA, for whatever reason. If you would like to share a few words about someone you know that passed away while riding, please in this form. We will be sharing a couple of these remembrances in each newsletter.
