Metro Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Program Classes

Metro is working with local non-profit bike organizations to help make bicycling safer in Los Angeles by conducting bicycle traffic skills classes and sponsoring community rides countywide. These safety education classes and rides are free to the public.

These rides feature content that delves deeper into the history of Los Angeles. These rides focus on content viewed from an intersectional lens as it relates to gender, race, ability level and socioeconomic status.

The program will allow transit agencies to use geographic, economic or other hiring preferences on federally funded construction projects. 

According to Metro, at present and in the future 80% of Metro's capital/operations budget is funded through LA County tax dollars (AKA: all of cus).

EPA tells Metro to follow air quality laws in 710 expansion

Metro seeks to expand the 710 freeway from Gateway Cities south to the Ports. EPA also calls the neighborhoods surrounding the 710 "an area with the worst air quality in the United States." The Coalition for Environmental Health and Justice (CEHAJ) wants a zero-emission corridor without lane widening, local hire, and no displacement.

Laurence Malone, Killed on 05/17/2021. He was 68 years old. 
Laurence Malone was driving from Ojai to Santa Fe, New Mexico when he and a semi-driver collided on Highway 138 near Lancaster. Laurence Malone was a renowned Cyclocross competitor and member of the US Bicycling Hall of Fame.

Suspected killer of Branden Finley identified & arrested.
Branden Finley was killed on January 16, 2021 in Downtown LA while riding his bike to meet with friends. He was 46 years old.
