Ask Council District 13 to add bike lanes to newly-repaved Belmont Avenue, north of Beverly Boulevard

The City of L.A. recently repaved Belmont Avenue between Temple and Beverly, located in Council District 13 represented by Hugo Soto-Martinez, who supports safer bicycling. Often, LADOT will add “low hanging fruit” bike lanes when repaving streets where bike lanes fit. The Bike Central local chapter of BikeLA is urging Soto-Martinez and LADOT to add bike lanes to Belmont Avenue.

Belmont Avenue bike lanes would connect to three schools, and many homes and businesses. All but one block of the street is wide enough to easily add new bike lanes without removing anything - no parking removal, no driving lane removal. The southernmost one block, closest to Beverly, is narrower but could fit a bike lane going uphill, with downhill sharrows.

BikeLA's newest local chapter, Bike Central LA, urges interested people to send brief respectful emails to City Councilmember Soto-Martinez encouraging him to add bike lanes to Belmont Avenue. Also post on social media.
